EVENING OF “IMAGE, STORY AND SONG” TO BE PERFORMED
IN WALLACEBURG OCTOBER 20th
Kevin Bulmer, CPT Entertainment presentation will celebrate heritage and community
London, ON (September 19, 2007): Kevin Bulmer will return to Wallaceburg on Saturday, October 20th to perform an evening of “Image, Story and Song” at the Jeanne Gordon Theatre. The event will showcase a unique mix of music, spoken word stories and a variety of historical and current photos and video. Bulmer will be accompanied on guitar by Dave Cook of Sarnia. The event is being produced by CPT Entertainment Inc.
In July of this year, Bulmer, through CPT Entertainment, released a CD entitled “I Remember,” which includes three original songs, all with a strong connection to Wallaceburg and its history. Bulmer performed two of the songs in June at the Glass Gallery opening at the Wallaceburg and District Museum, and later appeared at WAMBO in August. A portion of the net proceeds of the sale of the CD will go to the WAMBO committee. The CD is available at the museum and online at www.cptentertainment.com.
“Playing at WAMBO was a real thrill,” said Bulmer. “But, ironically, the songs that brought us there are really more suited for a quiet, relaxed environment. There are so many wonderful stories to be re-told and celebrated, even just within those three songs, and we felt like the people that have been in Wallaceburg a long time would like to share those with us. Playing at the Jeanne Gordon Theatre will allow us to do that. I’m imagining it will be like one of my Grandpa’s old family slide show evenings, just with music mixed in.”
Bulmer and Cook will perform the three songs from the CD (“I Remember,” “Wallaceburg” and “Glass”) along with several other original compositions and some favourites from through the years.
“At WAMBO, I related the story about how the town’s teenagers – folks who would now be in their 60’s and 70’s – would stop by the record booth at the front of the original Newkirk’s Plumbing and Heating store on James Street,” Bulmer said. “For me, it was quite a thrill to see a number of people respond to that story with a nod or a knowing smile, because that was my great-grandfather’s place. So I got to wondering what some of the songs were that they might have heard at that time. We’ve chosen and few and will play them in October along with our own.”
The idea of including the element of imagery largely came about through Bulmer’s growing relationship with local author and historian, Al Mann.
“Al Mann was so generous to provide access to images from the Mann Historical Files for the CD,” Bulmer said. “All the photographs on the CD insert are from him and, boy oh boy, do we ever get a lot of positive comments about how it (the CD) looks.”
In the process of planning how the evening in October could offer something unique, Bulmer reflected on the process of looking through the photos with Mann.
“While we were at that, I was really struck by how incredible so many of the pictures were,” Bulmer said. “The lake freighters downtown, the Kiltie Band, the glass factory, the wartime parades and so much more; there are some very powerful images that I think are helped in coming back to life when they’re put to music. They tell incredible stories that only Wallaceburg can tell.”
A mixture of images will be projected on a video screen on stage as Bulmer and Cook perform. Bulmer will relate stories between the songs.
Light refreshments will be on hand at the event, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. on October 20.
Tickets to the event are $12 in advance, $15 at the door, and are available at the Wallaceburg and District Museum (519-627-8962) at 505 King Street in Wallaceburg or online at www.cptentertainment.com.
